Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

Lane Keeping Assist Technology

For those stress-filled distracted days or long road trips, you can rely on your Acura to keep you safe. The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) is one of the multiple features available in AcuraWatch technology.

What is Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)?

LKAS is a driver assist system that uses a camera that can identify lane divisions and proactively works to keep your Acura within the detected lane and alert the driver if the vehicle begins to drift. LKAS will work to maintain the car centred within a detected lane on straight or slightly curving roads.

If your vehicle sways from the intended lane without the use of a turn signal, a visual warning appears along with an audible chime. The system will also slightly tug the steering wheel and guide the car to the center of the lane. Though the system may move the steering wheel to adjust its course, you can easily and safely hold your course if desired. The LKAS will not take control from you.

The LKAS system can be used when the following conditions are met:

  • The vehicle is travelling between 72 and 145 km/hr
  • The vehicle is on a straight or slightly curved road
  • The turn signals are off
  • The brake pedal is not depressed
  • The wipers are not in continuous operation
  • Continuous steering input from the driver detected

The Lane Keeping Assist System can easily be activated and deactivated at your convenience. You can refer to your Acura Owner's Manual for instructions on the use of LKAS or contact our staff at Maple Acura with any questions you may have.

How Does Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) work?

When LKAS is activated, a camera mounted at the top centre of the windshield detects lane markings to monitor the vehicle's position on the road at speeds between 72-145 km/h. If the vehicle drifts from the intended lane without the use of a turn signal, a visual warning appears in the MID, accompanied by an audible chime. The system also provides steering assist by using counteracting steering torque to help guide the vehicle to the centre of the lane.
